As speaker liaison I am in direct contact with some of our speakers from the initial contact until the day of the conference. I help them with travel arrangements, ask for information that we require and discuss the content of the talk. On the day of the conference I make sure my speakers know when they will be going on stage, support them throughout the day and calm their nerves.

Drei Ratschläge an Dein 14jähriges Ich!

Firstly be yourself and don’t care about what other people think. Secondly, don’t be afraid to change your mind or change your opinion, this is a sign of strength not weakness and thirdly, take life a little bit less seriously, go outside, have some fun, you grow up too quickly anyway.

Was steht auf Deiner Visitenkarte?

Marlies Neuner, TEDx Vienna, speaker liaison.

Was ist das coolste an Deinem Job?

It’s definitely about the people, so firstly the TEDx team which is very passionate but also the community which engages with us throughout the year and also the speakers who bring the innovative ideas and we get to work with them from the beginning onwards and get to know them behind the scenes.

Welche Einschränkungen bringt Dein Job mit sich?

One thing that can frustrating when it comes to conferencing is that you plan everything in detail, you try to expect the unexpected but there’s always something, some small detail some last minute decision that goes wrong and this is just something that you have to deal with and be flexible. For example, if a speaker misses a slide, you just need to know how to deal with that.

Worum geht es in Deinem Job?

Once our team is decided on the team for a TEDx conference, we get the contact to speakers who would fit to our team and we ask them whether they are interested to talk at the conference then once they are interested we book them and we are their single point of contact up until the day of the conference and on the conference itself. So we have the slides and we are preparing the talk and on the day of the conference, we are there to support them, to tell them when to be on stage and to calm their nerves

Wie sieht Dein Werdegang aus?

I was born in Vienna, I’m half Austrian, half British, once I finished school in Austria, I went to England to study for my Bachelor and my Masters in Psychology and Sports Psychology and during my masters I went to a TEDx conference at my university which I really enjoyed and when I came back to Vienna, I decided to get involved myself in TEDx. So I found TEdx Vienna and I have now been a member for about eight or nine months.

Ginge es auch ohne Deinem Werdegang?

Yes definitely, the only important thing is that you are fluent in English because we communicate with our speakers in English and also have that you have certain eloquence that you communicate in a professional way so we try to adapt with the writing style of the speakers.
