Drei Ratschläge an Dein 14jähriges Ich!
Being aware of one's strengths and weaknesses from an early age to be able to decide on which way seems to be more interesting and, essentially, the one I should choose.
Was steht auf Deiner Visitenkarte?
My name is Nora Hartung, I am Head of the Accounting Group and I am working at UNIQA Insurance Group.
Was ist das coolste an Deinem Job?
That one has got the freedom to actually create things. Naturally, one has to cope with obstacles in regards to the business environment where one has to be quite persistent to achieve something but one certainly has the opportunity to create and optimise things. That is what I really like about my job!
Welche Einschränkungen bringt Dein Job mit sich?
Working in balancing, one has to respect a lot of time constraints there are many deadlines to meet, which one is not able to postpone. We have quarterly reports and annual reports and various other reporting obligations. We have to honour those.
Worum geht es in Deinem Job?
UNIQA is one of Austria's largest insurance companies. I work on Group Finance, and my responsibility is the balancing of Austrian insurance companies and organisations, respectively service societies. As group leader of the accounting team, I am responsible for the creation of annual financial statements furthermore, we compile the business reports for subsidiaries. Besides, I am strongly involved in additional projects. For example, we transfer our main book to a new system to SAP /4HANA Currently, another rather lenghty project is the progressive removal of our old insurance policy systems, as there too many of them at the moment, and they will be unified under the new UNIQA Insurance Platform. Currently, we are at the annual closure of our accounts, which means the numbers are almost set. Now, they have to be transferred to our business report where we have to properly present those numbers in an updated written report. When this is successively completed, I need to review the numbers which is one of my responsibilities as well. Subsequently, we are in reconciliation with chartered accountants. At the end of the day one has successfully compiled a written report that one is actually able to hold in hands, which, to me, is a lovely feeling that, even if we are part of the service industry, we produce a tangible product.
Wie sieht Dein Werdegang aus?
I was born in Vienna did my A-levels at the commercial highschool Maygasse in Vienna. Afterwards, I started my studies of Economics and Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, which I completed. Alongside my school years and academic training I worked part time at a tax accountancy where I was responsible for the books of small businesses. After completing my studies, I applied for a job at UNIQA where I was hired as trainee. The programme was designed to pass through various departments to be able to get an overall impression of a company devision. By accident, due to illness, I came right to the balancing department I really enjoyed working there, which is why I did not leave this department anymore. Last year, I got the opportunity due to the fact that my former boss retired the position of Group Leader of the Accounting Department became vacant I applied for the job internally, and after an assessment centre I got the job as Group Leader in the Accounting Department.
Ginge es auch ohne Deinem Werdegang?
To be able to work in balancing, one surely needs a commercial education. In addition to the professional requirements it is of the essence to be well structured that one is able to think analytically and is apt with the organisation and coordination of things.
