Rob Aitken

“A lot of things that I work on end up in space.” so Rob Aitken talking about the coolest aspects of his job. He is an Optical Engineer at OPTOCAP Ltd., a member of the TÜV NORD GROUP, where he works with laser equipment. A limitation might be for Rob: “A lack of time on some projects, because I’m working on lots of different projects at the same time and there are deadlines to meet. I would like to have a little bit more time for some projects.”

Guillermo Largaespada
Project Manager • aerospace projects
”The coolest part of my job is basically having the opportunity to talk to customers all around the world.” - “We never get bored.” That’s what Guillermo replied as we asked him for the coolest thing about his job. He is a Project Manager for aerospace projects at ALTER TECHNOLOGY, a member of the TÜV NORD GROUP. His job is to coordinate all the tasks that have to be performed in order to finish a project. He makes sure that all tasks are completed in time, he reports to the customers and informs them how their projects are progressing. “Everything has to be done on time, on quality, on budget.”

Pierre Fontana
Senior Test Engineer
”The most exciting thing about my job is to work in a big space program,” tells us Pierre Fontana, Senior Test Engineer at HIREX ENGINEERING, a member of the TÜV NORD GROUP. “We provide to our customers the best results for their space mission. We recently worked for the European Space Agency on a small FPGA, which is a small computer in a card, and that’s completely new in the space industry.” For him, this is one of the most exciting things because there are always new aspects to his job and he has to test components to ensure that they will function in space.

Paloma Serrano
EEE Parts Project Manager
”The coolest thing about my job is to feel part of all the different space missions that we are participating in, because we are providing the basic building blocks, the electronic components, so these missions can happen. And then, whenever you see a rocket launch for a mission, or you see an instrument, where we have participated, in action, it makes it worth it. Your effort pays off completely.” That’s what Dr Paloma Serrano tells us about her job as a Product Manager at ALTER TECHNOLOGY, a member of the TÜV NORD GROUP, she adds: ”You have to work to very tight deadlines and sometimes unexpected delays happen and you have to look for the best solution.”
